Samuel Marshall "Sam" Raimi (born October 23, 1959) is an American film director, producer, actor and writer. He is famous for directing cult horror films such as
the Evil Dead series and Drag Me To Hell, as well as the blockbuster Spider-Man films and the producer of the successful TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. On occasion, Raimi collaborates with his elder brother Ivan, a doctor and occasional scriptwriter. Until now, they co-wrote the screenplays for Drag Me to Hell, Darkman and Army of Darkness and fleshed out most of the plot for Spider-Man 3. Ivan also contributed to story and script development for the three Spider-Man films. He has claimed his three favourite films to be The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Big Lebowski and Psycho.
Sam Raimi is now engage in several high profile films after the Spider-Man 4. The live action adaptation of the popular video game World or Warcraft is also considered to move into screen.According to report, he'll be helming the Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz, The Great and Powerful starring Robert Downey Jr. Recently,Raimi attended the Saturn Awards and while on the red carpet, he spoke to Collider about his involvement with both films.So the report seem to be true.
He claims he is not sure if he will direct the movie at last,but he has read the sript for Oz and have a good impression about it. This is not to say that he’s completely turned his back on the film. Everything is in negotiation and in prepareing.It’s just not on his to-do list right now.
World of Warcraft is making some decent progress,which gives a positive view to investors. Sam Raimi himself is a huge fan of the game and the characters and he’s excited to work on it. He says that he loves the scale, the landscapes, and the first person interaction players can have online. He has been talking with screenwriter Robert Rodat working from a 40 page treatment.The key problem first to solve is to determine a approporiate characters from so many characters in world of warcraft as main role and start from there.
According to IMDB the film is scheduled to be released in 2013.
